If a land deal is quoted at 5 Kanal, converting to acres: 5 ÷ 8 = 0.625 acres, or in marlas: 5 × 20 = 100 Marla. In hectares: 0.625 ÷ 2.47 ≈ 0.253 hectares. Double-checking these conversions before finalizing a land purchase, lease, or crop input calculation (like fertilizer or seed rate, which are usually calculated per acre or hectare) avoids costly under- or over-estimating of your actual land area.
Kanal and marla remain the standard units for land registration, local land deals, and everyday farm conversation across much of Pakistan and northern India, even though acres and hectares are used for larger-scale agricultural planning and official crop statistics.
